In her quest for 2012 London Olympic selection, Kayaker Jo Brigden Jones is in heavy training.
“Hi Chris, training has been going well so far. This time of year is our ‘off season’ so I am spending a lot of time at the gym increasing my strength and covering quite a few kilometres out in the water to gain a good base of endurance.
I get very sore from all the gym work so I am using my personal SCENAR to recover between sessions – its great! I am also doing some running and cycling to help boost my fitness!
I am already feeling fit and strong and feel I am in a good position for this time of year. This makes me very excited about the year ahead!
The Australian Institute of Sport for my sport – canoe sprint (its official name) is based on the Gold Coast so I have relocated up there for the next six months so I can put everything into my preparations for the Olympics and leave no stone unturned leading into the selection trials in March 2012.
My first race for the season will be at the NSW State Championships in January 2012 so it gives me a good couple of months of solid training. I really enjoy training, even though it hurts a lot, I always come back for more as I love the feeling of achieving a goal, even if it’s a small one during training. It keeps you going and working toward those bigger, long term goals. And don’t worry, my SCENAR is with me all the way!”
